Home for the Holidays: An At-Home Advent Kit
During Advent 2020, our church community was not yet worshipping in person, so we created and delivered an at-home Advent kit for us to celebrate the season together, yet apart.
The kit included a DIY jar candle filled with a cinnamon stick and “Christmassy” cuttings from trees around our building. Our congregants filled the small jar with water, added cinnamon-scented oil on top, then topped it all with a wick to create the candle. We also included a “shrinky dink” Christmas ornament with an illustration of our building.
In addition, we created a simple candle-lighting liturgy with scripture readings and reflection questions so our community could gather around the candle and worship together.
